Interfectus (La Flèche)

The king dies twice under one caption — a figure standing with an arrow in his eye, and a horseman cutting a figure down. Sylvaine is the singer who can watch both deaths at once and refuse to choose which is Harold.

The Arrow

The climax, tempo lurching from elegy to rout, the whole tapestry's tension released in a single stitched shaft.

Note

HIC HAROLD REX INTERFECTUS EST. 'La hampe fleurit dans sa nuit' — the shaft flowers in his darkness.
